Design and Illustration Overview
I design, illustrate, and create, with a strong focus on handmade and craft, and am based in Melbourne, Australia.
Each project is treated as a design problem. It begins with a message, process, or audience in mind, for which creative solutions are explored.
A lot of my work is intended to delight and amuse, and draws inspiration from folklore, craft, and illustration for children. Some projects are more didactic, and draw upon an interest in diagrams, early modernism, and the process of creative thought. And many of the works have tactile elements.
The work covers a broad range of media, including drawing, collage, printmaking, paper craft, embroidery, watercolour and painting. Most of the designs feature handmade elements.
I recently studied design and typography at Old School New School, have a background in architectural practice, and graduated from QUT in 2004 with the AIA professional prize.
